The Section AI Manifesto

Our purpose, principles, and practices for working with AI every day.

We are building a Supercompany.

Supercompanies are the most viable organizations in the world. They attract the best people, the cheapest capital, and the most valuable customers. They reset the benchmarks in their industries. And right now, they are pulling away from everyone else. We either join that group or we get left behind. There is no middle outcome.

We are living through the most significant shift in how work gets done in human history. The companies that move now will define their industries for the next decade. Every employee here is a shareholder in what we build. Creating a supercompany generates extraordinary upside for every one of us.

This requires something from both of us.

Section's job is to give every employee the pathways to transform: the tools, the training, and the honest conversations about how roles and teams will change that goes far beyond just providing access to AI tools.

Your job is to use AI. Every day, without waiting for permission. Experimenting, building, and pushing the boundaries of what you thought your job was. There is no version of becoming a Supercompany where you watch from the sidelines.

The path to becoming a Supercompany depends on consistent, daily participation in this transformation across Section.

The principles below describe how we do that.

1
Use AI every day
Every employee at Section should be a daily active user of AI. Claude and ChatGPT (primarily) are core to how we work, as essential as Slack or Google Drive. If you need a new AI tool, ask for it and we will assess it.
2
Block 2 hrs / week for experimentation
Every employee should have a 2-hour calendar hold for AI experimentation. Do not cancel it or work over it - do not ask people to schedule meetings during theirs.
3
Don’t hire people who don’t use AI
We will not hire people who say they don’t use AI, or only use it occasionally. Every new team member must be AI-proficient from day one.
4
Exhaust AI before adding resources
A new headcount, software solution, or vendor is no longer the answer to every problem. Investigate AI’s potential thoroughly before you submit a request.
5
Report AI impact regularly
Every team lead must assess and communicate how AI is impacting their team’s performance. We will do this in our regular update channels, like weekly 3Ps and QBRs.
6
Be a power user of our products
Every employee is responsible for acting as a super user of Section Coach and HQ and helping customers extract real value from them. Our products are our working model for AI transformation.
7
Share breakthroughs and failures
When you discover a use case or workflow, share it - don’t hoard it for yourself. Admit when AI didn’t work. Transparency helps us grow fast with high trust.
8
Own your work
Never say, “AI put this together so take it with a grain of salt.” Your decisions and output are your own, regardless of AI’s involvement. Outsourcing decisions to AI, cutting and pasting straight from AI, and AI work slop will not be tolerated.
9
Create, don’t just cut
It’s not just about efficiency - it’s about inventing with AI. Look for ways to add more value via new products and services that were not possible before. Reallocate saved time to new challenges that add value.
10
Stay human
AI changes how work gets done. It does not change how we treat people. As roles evolve, we will help everyone find their footing through reskilling, role changes, and honest conversations. The people who lean in and grow their impact with AI will be recognized and rewarded for it, regardless of how long they have been here.
