The chasm is already visible

I've been at Section for three weeks. In that time, I've watched Chad, our head of engineering, and a team of five ship 154 PRs. Pre-AI, that same team would have delivered closer to 54. That's nearly 3x the pre-AI median throughput. For context, Google used to expect elite engineers to ship 12 PRs per month. Section's engineers are tripling that.

This is what a Supercompany looks like when it starts coming online. And it's not just what I'm seeing internally. Some of our customers are so deep in agent experimentation that they're building internal marketplaces for agents, hacking together governance structures because the tools don't support it natively yet. I'm seeing Chief of Staff agents that deliver daily strategic briefings with more context than any human could synthesize. And agents enhance documentation by pulling in connections across systems that no one person could hold in their head.

Six months ago, the difference between an AI-forward company and a laggard was subtle. You had to squint to see it. Now you don't. The gap is showing up in throughput, in the scope of what small teams can take on, in how fast decisions get made. And the companies on the wrong side of that gap aren't falling behind gradually. They're watching the lead widen every week.

If you haven't started experimenting with agents in a serious, structured way, the competitive distance between you and the companies that have is already further than you think.
