Definitions

This document centralizes capitalized terms used across Section's public legal documents. Where a defined term also appears in a signed Master Services Agreement between Section and a Customer, the Master Services Agreement controls between those parties.

Section, Inc. ("Section", "we", "us", "our") maintains this document at sectionai.com/legal and updates it from time to time. Individual legal documents may carry minimal local definitions for self-containment when excerpted; this document is the authoritative source.

Glossary

Acceptable Use Policy or AUP: The document published by Section at sectionai.com/legal titled "Acceptable Use Policy," as updated from time to time.

AI Addendum: The document published by Section at sectionai.com/legal titled "AI Addendum," as updated from time to time.

AI Features: The artificial-intelligence-driven functionality within the Services, including coaching, analysis, content generation, certification, use case discovery, and insights produced through Foundation Models invoked via the LLM gateway.

Authorized User: An individual authorized by Customer to access the Services on Customer's behalf. Authorized Users include End Users and Customer administrators.

CCPA / CPRA: The California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 and the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020, in each case as amended and as implemented by applicable regulations.

Customer: The legal entity that has entered into a Master Services Agreement with Section authorizing use of the Services.

Customer Data: Data submitted to, stored in, or processed by the Services on behalf of Customer, including Personal Data of End Users.

Data Processing Addendum or DPA: The document published by Section at sectionai.com/legal titled "Data Processing Addendum," as updated from time to time.

Data Protection Laws: All applicable laws and regulations governing the processing of Personal Data, including the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP), the CCPA / CPRA, and similar state, federal, or international laws.

End User: An individual who accesses the Services under Customer's account, typically Customer's employee or contractor.

Foundation Model: A third-party large language model accessed by Section through the LLM gateway, such as those provided by OpenAI or Anthropic.

GDPR: Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (the General Data Protection Regulation), as amended.

Global Privacy Control or GPC: A browser-level signal that communicates a visitor's choice to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of their personal information under CCPA / CPRA and similar laws.

Inputs: Content (prompts, files, instructions, or other materials) submitted by Customer or an End User to the AI Features.

LLM gateway: The third-party API gateway (currently OpenRouter) through which Section routes requests to Foundation Models.

LLM Provider: A third-party provider of a Foundation Model or the LLM gateway, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and OpenRouter.

Master Services Agreement or MSA: The executed agreement between Section and Customer governing the Services. Where any conflict exists between an executed MSA and the customer-reference documents published at sectionai.com/legal, the executed MSA controls between Section and that Customer.

Outputs: Content generated by AI Features in response to Inputs.

Personal Data: Has the meaning given under applicable Data Protection Laws. For the avoidance of doubt, in the context of the Services this is limited to first name, last name, business email, authentication metadata, product event metadata, and, for SectionHQ tenants using the optional HRIS integration, employee directory metadata.

Platform Privacy Notice: The document published by Section at sectionai.com/legal titled "Platform Privacy Notice," as updated from time to time.

Platform Terms of Use: The document published by Section at sectionai.com/legal titled "Platform Terms of Use," as updated from time to time.

Privacy Policy: The document published by Section at sectionai.com/legal titled "Privacy Policy," covering visitors to the Site, as updated from time to time.

Processing: Any operation performed on Personal Data, including collection, recording, storage, alteration, retrieval, use, disclosure, transmission, or deletion.

Section: Section, Inc., a Delaware corporation with its mailing address at 228 Park Avenue S, PMB 96268, New York, NY 10003-1502.

Section Coach: Section's AI coaching product, formerly known as ProfAI.

SectionHQ: Section's AI workforce insights and intelligence product.

Security Incident: A confirmed breach of security leading to the accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure of, or access to Personal Data transmitted, stored, or otherwise processed by Section in the course of providing the Services.

Services: Section Coach, SectionHQ, and any related platform functionality made available by Section under a Master Services Agreement.

Site: sectionai.com and any sub-domain operated by Section for marketing purposes.

Standard Contractual Clauses or SCCs: The European Commission's standard contractual clauses for the transfer of personal data to third countries, as adopted in Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/914, as amended.

Sub-processor: A third party engaged by Section to process Customer Data on Section's behalf, as listed on the Subprocessor List.

Subprocessor List: The document published by Section at sectionai.com/legal titled "Subprocessor List," as updated from time to time.

UK GDPR: The GDPR as it forms part of the laws of the United Kingdom by virtue of section 3 of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018, as amended.

UK IDTA: The UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU SCCs, Version B1.0, issued by the Information Commissioner's Office and in force from 21 March 2022.

Website Terms of Use: The document published by Section at sectionai.com/legal titled "Website Terms of Use," as updated from time to time.
